My leadership overview is a brief introduction to one of the many leaders I admire.

A high school drop-out who barely graduated college is not typically how you would describe a leader. Much less, a leader with a law degree. Bob Goff is lawyer, author, and philanthropist working to change the lives of hundreds of people in places such as Nepal, Uganda, India, Somalia, and Iraq (Love Does, 2016). Knowing he wanted to change the world and make an impact on peoples lives, Goff had to figure out what his spark was (Goff, 2012, p.  39). Bob Goff lives life and does love. He sees people as they are, as Jesus would see them and he loves them all the same (Goff, 2012). Bob is the type of person who believes he can move mountains and does. He doesn’t just sit around and think about what he could be doing, he just gets to it.

 

What I have learned most from studying Bob Goff is that often times, you just have to get up and go for it. Most people won’t understand and they don’t have to. As long as you have the drive and the passion to do the task set before you, you will find success. Bob Goff says, “I used to be afraid of failing as something that really mattered to me, but now I’m more afraid of succeeding at things that don’t matter” (Goff, 2012, p. 25). Through his work with Love Does, Goff has changed the lives of many women, children, and even witchdoctors showing them they have a choice and someone not afraid to be their voice. As stated on their website, Love Does is a philanthropic organization whose mission is to “changes the lives of a few for the better. Love Does fights for freedom, human rights and education of those in need” (Love Does, n.d.). Founded in 2003, after a trip to India where Bob experience extreme human rights violations Love Does serves as a voice and safe house to those who have fallen victim of trafficking, slavery and injustice (Love Does, 2016). By opening safe-houses, schools and prosecuting offenders Bob Goff and Love Does have changed the life of a few for the better. What greater accomplishment is there in the world than to impact people by showing them what love is absolutely capable of?
